Rocky Writing Review

You don’t have to win the fight to be a winner. Rocky (Sylvester Stallone) is a story about a man who, “because I can’t sing and dance”, fights just to get by. But when given the opportunity for the boxing World Heavyweight Title, against Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers), looks to go the distance. The film was written by Sylvester Stallone in 1976 and Charles “Chuck” Wepner claims the movie was based upon him. He went 15 rounds with Muhammad Ali in 1975.
The film is very picturesque. Each scene having its own attitude. Rocky’s world is a lonely one. Most of the time he talks to himself. But when given the opportunity to talk to someone else he says whatever comes to his mind. When speaking with, love interest, Adrian (Talia Shire), Rocky does most of the talking, adding little jokes that deepen the connection of his personality. Paulie (Burt Young) is the older brother of Adrian. His character is very needy throughout, looking for anything to make quick buck. Even if that way is using Rocky’s name and making him a walking billboard. Mickey (Burgess Meredith) doesn’t like Rocky in the beginning. Thinking he is, “a waste of life”, because he never took his training seriously until he gets his big opportunity. Mickey trains him and shares knowledge of his 50 year boxing career.
The writing of the film stays true to each character. It’s the story of the working man doing what he can to get by. Realizing he doesn’t always have to win the fight to be a winner. In the end love conquers all. All you some people need is one opportunity to shine.
